Kay Ryan is the author of five books of poems, most recently Say Unde (Grove Press, 2000). Her awards include an NEA Fellowship, an Ingram Merrill Award, the Union League Poetry Prize (Poetry magazine), and two Pushcart Prizes. Her work was selected for The Best American Poetry in 1995
and again in 1999, as well as for The Best of the Best American Poetry 1988-1997. She was born in California in 1945 and grew up in the small towns of the San Joaquin Valley and the Mojave Desert. Since 1971 she has lived in Marin County. A number of her poems have appeared in The New Yorker.
Entertainment Weekly has just named Kay Ryan its favorite poet for 2001.
